Founded in Edinburgh in 1997 by Liz Ford (Bmus Hons) and Pete Harvey (Bmus Hons), the Canongate Quartet has extensive and wide-ranging performance experience. They are equally at home in the concert hall as at corporate events and private functions, and have spent nearly a decade providing the perfect musical backdrop to all aspects of a typical day of wedding celebrations.
Drawing from a pool of professional freelance players (including members of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra), each of whom are highly experienced chamber musicians, the Canongate Quartet provides an ensemble of outstanding quality, with a seamless professional image.
With an ever-expanding repertoire that covers over four centuries of music - from traditional and classical music, to more contemporary jazz and popular songs - their programme can be customised to suit any requirements. Their own unique string arrangements can also be commissioned, adding an extra sense of occasion to the engagement. If their services are required for a themed or period event, they are more than willing to dress appropriately.
Some quotes from past clients:
"Thank you for playing so wonderfully at our wedding. I'll never forget hearing you start playing just as I was about to start my walk up Redwood Grove - it was magical."
"Their playing was faultless, their programme was varied, and above all, it was fun. We would expect to use this String Quartet on future occasions and have no reservations in recommending them to others."
"Recently they enchanted the company at a reception to launch an important musical exhibition in the university library. Their professional approach, both musically and commercially, should ensure them many important engagements"
The fees for 2008 are £585 for 2 hours, £120 for each subsequent hour, performing in the Edinburgh area.
