Alex is a harpist and composer. Born in the UK, she began to study the clarsach (Celtic small harp) at the age of nine, and began her career performing at concerts and private functions two years later. Since then, she has had the privilege of performing at some of the most picturesque venues in the North of England.
Alex's fascination with the possibilities of her instrument has led her to study many different types of harp and their music, from the classical pedal harp to the lightly strung Paraguayan harp and the Japanese koto. She now seeks to combine the techniques and traditions of all these different instruments into her playing.
In recent years, Alex has worked closely with Welsh harpmakers Telynau Teifi. The incomparable sound produced by their instruments was fundamental to her developing her current style of playing; the purity of sound in the treble allowing her to play classical and traditional music with maximum expressiveness, whilst the resonant bass enables her to produce the South American and jazz rhythms she regularly performs.
Alex is happy to play either the pedal harp or the clarsach at events, and provides free of charge consultations to discuss which might be the most suitable for your requirements, and to help arrange a programme of music tailored to your wishes. There are very few things which are completely impossible to play on the harp, and Alex has taken requests ranging from arrangements of popular classical music to football songs and heavy metal covers!
Alongside her musical career, Alex has also studied circus and performing arts, as well as graduating with a first in Japanese language and art history from the University of Edinburgh. She is passionate about introducing people to the harp, and now travels regularly around Britain to demonstrate and teach her unique style of playing.
Your booking system was very easy to use and we couldn't be happier with the entertainment Alex provided. Her music made our small wedding ceremony something very special! It was more than we could have ever imagined. She was a delight to work with and she helped to make our fairy-tale wedding dream come true. We highly recommend Buena Vista and Alex to anyone looking to have harp music for their wedding or any special event. Thank you! Amy & Tom Hornick. 15 May 2015

I can't thank Alex enough for her help in the planning on the run up to our wedding and for her performance on the day itself. She was very helpful with ideas and was very flexible, and most importantly was lovely to deal with both by email and on the day. Thanks again. Karen. 8 November 2014
