Playing ceilidh standards along with some more unusual dances, this band are great fun! Caroline is an accomplished fiddler and caller, and is joined by Katherine on the keyboard, Esther on Bodhrán and Anna on second fiddle. Together they will guarantee you a footstomping party!
Caroline, the band leader, fiddler and dance caller has been playing the fiddle since primary school. She was first introduced into the world of folk music through the Edinburgh Youth Gathering. She formed Cu Chulaind's Raven ceilidh band at the tender age of 15, who became renowned for their unpronouncable name and 30 minutes long strip the willow sets!
Katherine has been playing since the age of 10. She studied music at university before training as a music therapist which remains her day job. Katherine is also a singer and composer.
Esther hails from Berlin and has been playing Irish and Scottish music for over 16 years. She played for Irish set dancing with the band Mind The Dresser and toured through Germany and Austria with the Irish step dance show Celtic Life.
Anna, from the Speyside town of Fochabers, was taught fiddle by the legendary James Alexander. She has travelled all over the world with a fiddler group and knows just how to bring that extra drive and harmony to the band.
The band members have played a wide variety of venues from Gleneagles and Balmoral castle, to more unusual new-age weddings under a tree! The band leader also played for the biggest eightsome reel in the world (5,000 dancers) at the "Make Poverty History" march in 2005.
I want to thank you and "Ceilidh Band 2" for an excellent performance on the night who more than lived up to our expectations. They played very musically and not at all raucously (as some of our members had feared); they mixed instrumentals with dances; and Caroline performed one beautiful song (she'd been a bit hesitant when I asked her to do so earlier, but I think she should be encouraged to do so more often). Caroline was an excellent caller and drew many of our often quite elderly members to the dance floor. All in all it was a very good evening, which was enjoyed by everybody who attended. Please therefore pass on our appreciation to "Ceilidh Band 2". We'd certainly give them an excellent reference, if ever requested. With best regards. Robert.
Thanks so much for the great provision of Caroline and her ceilidh band on my wedding day! It was a fantastic day and the band were excellent - they did some nice unusual dances which I love!
